Tribute to Journalist Prasanna Kumar Bora of Darrang

Prasanna Kumar Bora, a former journalist of Darrang and a gentleman in the purest sense of the term, left for the heavenly abode on July 25 at the age of 74. Besides serving as the Mangaldai base correspondent of erstwhile ‘Natun Dainik’ an Assamese daily edited by eminent journalist Chandra Prasad Saikia for several years, he was also actively involved with various social non-political organizations including Srimanta Sankardeb Sangha and as the president of Mangaldai Citizens Forum. It was his whole hearted effort along with late Tuwa Ram Deka that brought the mediapersons of Mangaldai on one platform in 1994.

Born at village Borthekerabari under Rangamati Mouza of Darrang district in 1945 to the family of Chamak Bora, an exponent of Ojapali and Kameswari, Bora completed his school education from Hazarikapara High school and took graduation from Mangaldai College. For a short period he rendered his service as a teacher in Kalaigaon and Hattigorh in undivided Darrang district. Later, he started his career as a grade II officer in the Directorate of Central Census and took his retirement in 2005. Late Bora later permanently got settled at Jyoti Nagar of Mangaldai town. He was loved by all section of the society for his amiable and cooperative nature with positive thoughts. He has left behind his wife, two sons and two daughters besides a host of relatives and admirers. On this day of his ‘Adya Shraddha’, I offer my hearty tribute to departed soul and share the deep pain and sorrow of his family members.
