Tributes paid to martyrs of Assam Agitation

DIBRUGARH, Dec 10: Along with the other parts of the State, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) observed the day centrally at mrup with the hoisting of AASU flag by the president of AASU, Dipankar th while AASU secretary, Lurin joyti Gogoi offered smriti tarpan.

AASU advisor Sammujjal Kumar Bhattacharjee paid rich tributes to all the martyrs of the Assam Agitation .The day-long programme was marked by am prasanga and felicitation to the members of martyrs’ families.

Reacting sharply against Bharatiya Jata Yuba Marcha which observed the day centrally at Bhabanipur by putting the portrait of Deen Dayal Sharma along with Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the Assam Agitation, the AASU cautioned the AJYM leadership not to play with the sentiments of Assamese people. AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, while condemning the act, stated that the Morcha leadership should know that Talukdar was the first martyr of the Assam Agitation and any disgraceful act against martyrs by any organization would not be tolerated.

DHEKIAJULI: Under the aegis of Dhekiajuli  unit of AASU, Martyr’s Day was observed on Sunday in Dhekiajuli. Shankara Das, the president, Dhekiajuli unit of AASU, hoisted the flag of AASU.  The tribute-paying fucntion was headed  by Dipak Talukdar, former AASU leader of Dhekiajuli and was iugurated by retired teacher Pradip Kumar th.

Floral tributes was paid at the portrait of martyrs by former student leader  Dharmeswar Saikia, Girindra Boruah, Kabindra Das, Nihal Das, AASU Dhekiajuli unit secretary and others. On the other hand, the AGP Dhekiajuli unit also hoisted its flag at the same venue and the flag was hoisted by Sultan Hussain, the president, AGP Dhekiajuli constituency. The tribute-paying function was iugurated by AGP member Khem Mahanta. The open session was held under the presidentship of Sultan Hussain. The Borsola AGP unit also observed Martyr’s Day at Niz Borsola and offered floral tributes to the martyrs of the Assam Agitation.
