Tripathi takes oath

Shillong, January 6: Keshari th Tripathi took oath as the Governor of Meghalaya on Tuesday. The oath of office was administered by the Acting Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court Justice Uma th Singh at a brief but impressive ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in Shillong. Tripathi is also the Governor of West Bengal and will be holding additiol charge till a full–fledged Governor is appointed by the Centre.

The Chief Minister Mukul sangma, chief adviser to the government DD Lapang and other dignitaries attended the function. Interestingly, the Leader of the opposition (LO) Dr Donkupar Roy and other senior legislators from the UDP and NPP were not present during the ceremony. Soon after the swearing in ceremony, the Chief Minister had an informal chat with the Governor and briefed him about the developments in the State. Later the Governor, during a brief interaction with newsmen said, “I have tried to find out the activities in the State and everyone is anxious about the development of this area”.

He said, “It is construction of roads, airport and improvement of communication which required urgent consideration and it is being attended by the Government,” stated Tripathi while appreciating the State’s tural beauty and good ture of the people.

The Governor also made it clear that he will be shuttling between Shillong and Kolkatta depending on the ture and demand of the work.
