Agartala, Nov 30: The Bar Council of Tripura derecognised over 200 non-practicing advocates

affiliated with different courts in the state which include some prominent persolities.

The derecognised advocates includes speaker of the State assembly Ramendra Kumar th, former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman, Trimool Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and the vice-president of the BJP state committee Subal Bhowmik.

There are over 1100 advocated affiliated to the Bar Council of Tripura but during a recent verification it was found that over 200 of them never appeared before the court during last five years and were derecognised. Pijush Kanti Biswas, President of the Bar Council of Tripura said the verification process was undertaken as per instruction of the Bar Council of India which had set non-appearance in any court continuously for five years as criteria for declaring an advocate as non-practicing. The Bar Council of India also instructed all the state bar councils to verify the certificates of all the advocates following allegations that a large number of advocates are there in our judicial system who got affiliation from the bar councils submitting fake certificates.

‘This verification process also will be undertaken very soon’, Mr Biswas said.
