Tripura best performer in implementing MGNREGA

AGARTALA, Feb 6: Tripura was awarded as the best performing State in the country in implementation of MGNREGA in 2014-15 as it generated 88 man days. Out of total 657 MGNREGA districts in the country 11 districts were selected for award, two of which are from Tripura.

The Gomati district was awarded for ‘effective implementation through convergence’ and Dhalai district was awarded for ‘generating highest 99 man days in the country through effective initiative’.

The awards were given in MGNREGA conference held on February 2 at New Delhi on the occasion of MGNREGA day to mark the completion of 10th year of the project. Union Fincne Minister Arun Jaitley was the chief guest on the occasion presided over by the Union minister for rural development, panchayati raj, drinking water and sanitation Birendra Singh.

GSG Ayenger, principal secretary for rural development department of Tripura, in a press conference said five panchayats across the country were selected for recognition as best performing Gram Panchayats, Madhabgar panchayat under Poangbari block in South Tripura district was one of them.

He said an opportunity was extended to ten best performing states to display the best practices adopted for implementation of MGNREGA and out of them four were awarded. Tripura was one of them.

In the conference Tripura bagged four awards in different categories.
