Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb mulling construction of tallest building in Agartala

Agartala: Tripura government is mulling a proposal to construct the tallest building of Northeast in the Old Central Jail complex situated in the heart of the capital city Agartala.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb accompanied by the Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath and officials of concern departments visited the complex and held a high level meeting. In the meeting, the Chief Minister revealed the idea to construct a twenty storied building in the complex which was vacant since the Central Jail shifted. This will be the tallest building in the entire region and will be part of the ongoing Smart City project. It is learnt that the plan proposed to construct two parallel building one of which will be an Information Technology Hub and the other will fulfill the housing requirements for the proposed hub. The Chief Minister reportedly said that the state has a huge potential to become a major IT centre in the region due to its geographical location and a proper infrastructure is needed for that.

The proposed building will fulfill this requirement. The previous Left Front government had proposed to construct an English medium science college in this vacant land and the preliminary works also was started but after the BJP-IPFT coalition government came to power the new idea emerged as the Chief Minister thinks it will be the best way for optimum utilization of the land.
