Tripura conducts MGNREGA audit for 31 blocks

Our correspondent

Agartala, May 27: The Tripura government has been conducting audit of the fund utilization under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (MGNREGA) in 31 blocks of the State.

Secretary of the Audit Department Sahadeb Das has ordered to complete the audit in four districts within this month. The four districts which included in the first phase of the MGNREGA audit are South Tripura, Gomuti, Sipahijala and North Tripura District.

Though the time frame for completion of the audit task has been fixed by May 31, the auditors are finding it difficult to complete it within the stipulated time due to various reasons.

“The government wants accuracy in audit but the time allotted for the purpose is too inadequate for the process needs various documents and information which is time- consuming ,” one of the auditors said.

He said: “We’ve been visiting the offices of the panchayats, panchayat Samity and village committees. But in most of the offices the documents have not been maintained properly.”

There were allegations about misappropriation of funds under the MGNREGA scheme during the previous Left Front government. Thus, the BJP-IPFT coalition government after coming into power has decided to conduct a detailed audit of the fund utilization under the scheme.
