Tripura demands State roads to be declared NH

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

Agartala, Aug 23: Tripura government has demanded eight more roads of this state to be declared tiol highway for further improvement of the State’s interl connectivity as well as with neighboring states and Bangladesh.

Tripura had only two tiol highways before the NDA government came to power at the Centre and in last three years six more roads have been declared as tiol highway while a decision on principal has already been taken to elevate four more roads to similar status which will take the total number of NH in Tripura to ten. The demand for declaring eight more roads as tiol highway is in addition of these ten NHs.

Tripura PWD Minister Badal Choudhury in a letter to Road Transport and Surface Communication Minister Nitin Gadkari said the State government accord high priority for improvement of inter-state and intertiol connectivity by developing road links that will also interlink NHs, which are important strategically too, apart from intertiol trade.

He further said these will additiolly benefit the overall development of the border areas and the interior tribal areas in the run.

Interestingly, a perennial critic of the rendra Modi led NDA government in the centre; the Left Front minister, has showered immense praise on it for its emphasis on development of NHs as the logical backbone of the connectivity network, in Tripura as well as for its linkage to the north eastern region and with Bangladesh.

“It has inspired hope and optimism among the people and I on behalf of the people of the state would like to convey sincere thanks to you for such initiative,” the letter says.
