Tripura Deputy Speaker urges people to play the role of opposition

Agartala, Dec 19: Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Assembly Pabitra Kar has urged the people to play the role of opposition in the civic bodies where there is no opposition member.  He was addressing a gathering in front of the Ranir Bazar gar panchayat office after the swearing in of the newly elected members and executive members.  He said the opposition plays a very important role in any democratic set up but the voters of Ranir Bazar found not a single candidate from the opposition parties suitable to represent them.  “In such a situation the responsibility of the people has increased and they are to bring to the notice of the  elected members if there is any deficiency in their service,” he said.  No opposition member was elected in 13 out of total 20 civic bodies across the state in the election  held on December 9.  Meanwhile, the state is preparing go for the election of the 587 village committees in the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council area to be held in February next.  In the village council election the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura will be the main challenger to  the ruling CPI(M) while the BJP is trying to make its own space among the tribal voters. In the last  TTAADC the ruling Left Front won all the 28 seats but the IPFT and the BJP emerged second while the  Congress relegated to fourth position.
