Tripura district council’s bid to promote tribal culture

AGARTALA, Oct 30: The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council has decided to organise one festival in every month. The decision was taken in a meeting at Khumulung, the head quarter of the council.

The meeting presided over by the Chief Executive member Radha Charan Debbarma reviewed the activities of the department for information, cultural affairs and tourism and took several other decisions. It is learnt that the festivals to be organized every month will be based on culture and tradition of various tribes with a motive to promote them as well as to attract the tourists.

The decision was taken after it was found that many of the tradition and culture of different tribes specially the smaller one are getting extricated and the need was felt to do something to preserve

them.  Parikshit Mura Singh, executive member in-charge of the information, cultural affairs and tourism department, officer-on –special-duties Bishnu Charan Debbarma, principal officer Biswajit Sinha were among others present in the meeting.

The meeting also decided to felicitate three persons every year for their contribution in different field, organizing awareness camps in different parts of the TTAADC on various issues, screening of feature films, distribution of modern musical instruments to 10 cultural teams etc.

The meeting also decided to produce two films highlighting the activities of the TTAADC.

The Chief Executive Member Radha Charan Debbarma urged to give all effort to make the annual tribal cultural and literary festival a tiol affair. He also asked to take step to improve the standard of the tribal folk musical college at Khumlung and beautification of the tribal music cum heritage centre.
