AGARTALA, July 7: A senior Indian Police Service officer Joydip yak who is facing corruption charges in Orissa and now reportedly absconding has been put under suspension by Tripura government on Wednessday.  This is the first incident in Tripura where a senior IPS officer has been put under suspension in Tripura. A 1991 batch IPS of Tripura cadre yak went on deputation to his home state Orissa in 2011 and returned to Tripura early this year.

He was serving as head of the Child Protection Commission of Orissa when he was accused of defalcation of Rs 88 lakh meant for skill development.

The vigilance department of the Government of Orissa is investigating the case and already arrested five of yak’s accomplices in the defalcation case. Recently the vigilance department has sent a notice to yak instructing him to appear before them and also informed the Government of Tripura. Accordingly he left Tripura but instead of Bhubaneswar he landed in a private nursing home in Delhi.
