Tripura MP urges banks to help local entrepreneurs

Agartala, Jan 5: Member of Lok Sabha from East Tripura constituency Jiten Choudhury urged the banks to be liberal in sanctioning loan to local entrepreneurs for setting up industries taking the advantage of favourable condition prevailing in Tripura. He said that the economy is still mostly dependent of agriculture it we could not progress in industrial sector as per expectations. Setting up of more industries is the need of the hour as agriculture can’t create sufficient employment opportunities. He was addressing a gathering after iugurating plastic factory at Bodhjung gar Industrial Estate in the eastern outskirt of Agartala. He invited industrialists from outside Tripura and abroad to set up industries here but said that the local entrepreneurs also must be encouraged.

He said no industry is possible without loans from banks and urged the bankers to understand the problems faced by the small entrepreneurs. He also urged the government departments to extend helping hand so that the industrialists can bring raw materials from outside easily.

He told the entrepreneurs to go for diversification considering the demand and locally available raw materials. “Industries based on agriculture also must be encouraged”, he said.

Pran Gopal Saha, maging director of the Prandip Industries said that his industry will produce plastic products to meet the domestic needs and subsequently will go for diversification.

He said at present the plastic products from Bangladesh have captured a large portion of the plastic market in Tripura and other northern states. “If we can produce similar products locally and can maintain quality finding a market will not be a problem”, he said.

Director of Industries V G Gener, general mager of the State Bank of India Pan Lal Das, secretary of the Tripura Merchants Association Chan Mohon Saha also spoke on the occasion.
