Tripura to introduce biometric attendance in all schools

AGARTALA, Jan 6: After dividing the education department into two separate directorates the Tripura government is tightening its grip to ensure regular attendance of the teachers by introducing Biometric attendance system in all the schools across the state. This will be implemented in all the 4818 schools under the Directorate for Primary Education and Directorate for Secondary Education.

Initially the project will be implemented in the schools of West Tripura and Shipahijala District and subsequently all other districts will come under this project. The central government has allotted necessary fund as it was one of the component of the new education policy.

The State government has taken a determined step to ensure regular attendance of the teachers for last two years when the inspectors of schools and other supervising officers undertaken at least 9721 surprise visits in the schools. Officers from other departments also were involved in the task. Action like issuing show cause notice and suspension was taken against 1240 teachers but that failed to give desired result.

Apart from introducing biometric attendance the departmental officers has been instructed to continue visiting the schools on a regular basis and has earmarked the number of schools the officers to visit every month.
