Agartala, Jan 28 : The Teacher’s Association of Tripura University has gharoed the Vice-Chancellor Anjan Kumar Ghosh for several hours on Friday forcing him to cancel the entire recruitment process for the post of Professor and Associate professors.

Interview for the posts were scheduled for January 27, 28 and 29. The Teachers Association had earlier in a letter requested the Vice-Chancellor not to proceed with the recruitment process as it is violating many established norms for these posts.

The teachers approached the VC as soon as he reached his office and requested him to stop the interview. They have gharoed the VC when he expressed his ibility to reverse the decision. They also raised slogan condemning the appointment in senior positions violating the norms. The gharao continued till afternoon and was withdrawn only after the VC conceded some of their demands including cancelling the interview process. He issued another order removing professor Satya Deo Podder from the post of dean of the Art’s and Commerce.

The tension was brewing since the 26th meeting of the Executive Council of the university held in November last that approved direct appointment of an associate professor of Hindi in the post of Professor.

The Teachers Association alleged that the person was given direct appointment though he doesn’t have requisite qualifications like 10 years experience, guiding at least one PHD scholar and at least ten reputed publications.

The teachers were determined to disrupt the Executive Council meeting on Friday as there were several other proposals for appointment in the senior positions violating the norms.
