Truck driver killed in mishap

Jorhat, May 23: A speeding truck collided head-on with an ASTC bus on the NH 37 near Dohotia under Pulibor outpost in Jorhat district. The driver of the truck was killed in the mishap. The truck bearing registration number AS-01 CC-7273 was trying to overtake an LML Vespa scooter (AS - 12 A – 2114) when hit the bus AS-20-1598 coming from the opposite direction. The deceased driver has been identified as Abdul Rahman. Four others, including the scooter rider and bus passengers, sustained minor injuries and were admitted to the JMCH. The injured persons are Bijoy Sahu (57), Hurjyo Saikia (35) - both bus passengers, scooter rider Deepak Kumar (33) and pillion Yusuf Alvi.  Road accidents on the tiol Highway 37 near the Dohotia area of Jorhat has shot up in recent times. However, locals of the adjoining areas have expressed relief at the miraculous escape of the passengers including the scooter rider and the pillion. The scooter has been damaged beyond repair.
