Trucks violate NGT ban on coal transportation

Shillong, Aug 8: Despite the tiol Green Tribul (NGT) ban on transportation of coal in the State, the order is being flouted since its movement is continuing ubated. 
And this is evident in the seizing of nine coal-laden trucks in the past three days alone by the police.
According to reports, on the night of August 7, two coal-laden trucks – AS-01HC-3385 driven by Rakesh Barman and NL-03A-7109 driven by Kamal Thapa – were noticed at Umiam, Ri-Bhoi district transporting coal in violation of NGT order and were all seized.
Similarly, on August 6 at around 10:30 pm, during routine checking at the 13th Mile toll plaza near Byrnihat in Ri-Bhoi district, the police detected another coal-laden truck (AS-01DD-8538) driven by Kashmir Singh, while illegally transporting coal. The truck was seized. On August 5 too, the police detected and seized six coal-laden trucks at Umsamlem under Umsning outpost in Ri-Bhoi district. According to the police, the trucks were detected at around 6 pm and these were detained – AS-01GC-0437 driven by Saiful Islam, AS-01FC-4245 driven by Abdul Sahid, AS-01FC-3137 driven by Lucky Singh, AS-01HC-7537, driven by Ajit Lama, AS-01GC-7073, driven by Krish Daimary and ML-04B-3859 driven by Phermi Ryngkhlem.
