Tuki convenes meeting on Chakma-Hajong row

ITAGAR, Dec 2: Aruchal Chief Minister bum Tuki convened a high level meeting on Chakma Hajong Refugee Imbroglio on Tuesday, at his residence. The meeting was attended by the leaders of All Aruchal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) and its Core Committee headed by chairmanGumjum Haider, a press release said.

In the meeting, the AAPSU president Kamta Lapung, expressed his strong resentment to the unilateral verdict of Supreme Court of India and wanted to know from the Advocate General of Aruchal Pradesh, Ranji Thomas, Principal Home Secretary, Dharmendra and other officials of State government for the reasons of dismissals of review petition filed in Supreme Court against the SC verdict of September 17, directing the Union of India and State of Aruchal Pradesh to confer citizenship rights to eligible Chakmas and Hajong refugees. The Chairman of the Core Committee on Chakma Hajong agitation, Gumjum Haider expressed his apprehensions, if legal and constitutiol provisions provided in constitution of India and if then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s five principles to govern the indigenous tribal’s of Aruchal Pradesh and Northeast are undermined by Centre and its organs, which are the only link between people of Aruchal Pradesh and Centre then future consequences could be unthinkable.

Replying to legal parameters of the Supreme Court, Ranji Thomas said, “Though our review petition has been dismissed but this is not the end of the road for us.” Stating that they still have legal provisions available with them, he expressed his hopefulness from highest court of the tion for the justice to the people of Aruchal Pradesh. While showering huge appreciation to AAPSU on its unflinching efforts on vexed issue, he said, State’s first move will be to file curative petition in the Supreme Court of India where the matters will be heard by 5 judges of the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, after listening to every participant, the Chief Minister said that he understands the gravity of the situation and declared, he is there to protect Aruchal. He said that so long he is there in helms of affairs in Aruchal Pradesh he will always strive to protect rights of Aruchal.
