TUR seeks HDR Lyngdoh's resigtion

Dorphang sexual assault case

STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, Jan 10: TUR urges the Mawhati Constituency Political Committee (MCPC) to stop attempting to whitewash the crimes committed by Julius Dorphang by terming it a political conspiracy. Fact remains that a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by the MLA and he needs to be held accountable under the crimil justice procedure which is not in the hands of the Mawhati electorate. This crimil justice procedure which involves investigations by the police comes under the Home Minister.

TUR is, therefore, amused at the politically insidious and ignorant statements made by the Sohiong Block Congress Committee which convened a meeting to further mislead people on the incidents of the Marvelene Inn Trafficking case. These political agents of H D R Lyngdoh in the same breath even appeared to be promising roads, bridges etc as sops and inducements so as to further fool the Sohiong electorate.

“HDR Lyngdoh may be the Sohiong MLA, but his power as a Home Minister is one conferred in the me of all the people of Meghalaya and we, therefore, have every right to hold him accountable,” TUR said.

“Our demand of his resigtion as a Home Minister is to ensure an independent and wide-ranging investigation into the trafficking case in which his families’ guest house has been med. We reiterate that he steps down immediately so that justice is done to the victim,” he said.

It has been reported that the 14-year-old victim was taken to the guest house twice. His son’s claims that he and the Mager are uware of the unlawful happenings in the guest house, is unteble and they need to know that ignorance of law and supposed negligence on the part of the proprietor and mager cannot be an excuse.

It may be mentioned that till TUR and CSWO filed an FIR against Marvelene Inn, the police on its own accord had not applied the law in letter and spirit.

“We reiterate that HDR Lyngdoh should relinquish his Home Portfolio immediately,” it said.

TUR urges citizens to participate in the protest rally on January 11 at 11am to be taken out from Fire Brigade Ground to Additiol Secretariat parking lot in Shillong.
