from A Correspondent

Shillong, April 20: Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR), a people’s group, will be holding a public forum on April 22 near MBOSE office, Lachaumiere at 11 am to discuss the “attack on democratic and secular ideals by the Hindu Right groups”. TUR has also appealed to all religious leaders, civil society groups and regiol parties of Meghalaya to boycott the visit of BJP president Amit Shah. According to TUR, they have made this appeal because “the BJP is anti-tribal and anti-farmer.”  “They (BJP) are attacking people’s freedom of culture, religion and faith through beef ban, vandalising of churches and mosques, attacking minorities and their places of worship,” it said. The TUR also alleged that the BJP government at the Centre is pushing for mining of uranium against people’s wishes. TUR also said that the BJP government is engaged in censorship and gagging of people’s freedom of expression.
