Tura by-poll: Congress admits defeat

FROM STAFF CORRESPONDENT
SHILLONG, May 19: Meghalaya Congress party accepted the defeat in Tura, even as they see more than the sympathy wave that made the party lose badly. Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president D.D Lapang told a group of newsmen here on Thursday, “We accept the results but we have to introspect to know the magic of Conrad K Sangma”. He admitted that the latest result is a setback to the party but asserted that the Congress party is not a force to lie low for a long time. The Congress upsetting trends started when the NPP trounced them in the elections to the Gato Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). The MPCC chief admitted that it had a demoralizing effect. But Lapang was apt in saying that any upsets does not mean that they will brandish guns on each other. “We will take our time to look at the reason that defeated our candidate”, he concluded indicating that a new alignments blended with the old and the new will refurbish the party.
