SHILLONG, May 16: The process of electioneering for the 2nd Tura Parliamentary seat passed without any untoward incident barring minor glitches in the eleven EVMs which were replaced in the presence of polling agents. The overall polling was peaceful, disclosed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Fredrick Roy Kharkongor on Monday. According to the CEO, trends available till late this evening indicates that 66 % of the electorate cast their votes and the fil tally is expected to cross the seventy percent mark. “The EVMs from certain pockets of West and East Garo Hills district are expected to arrive late,” stated Kharkongor after overseeing the smooth conduct of the elections in the Parliamentary seat that has been plagued by various militant activities in the recent past. The peaceful election that was preceded by heated verbal duels between the rival parties vying for the prestigious Parliamentary seat has come as a big relief to the officials tasked with the job of conducting free and fair polls.
