Tussle for post of Margherita Town Committee vice-chairman

From a Correspondent

MARGHERITA, February 23: In the recent civic polls in Margherita, the Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) won all the eight wards of Margherita Town Committee. But now a struggle is going on within the party for the post of vice-chairman. In this term, the post of chairperson has been reserved for woman candidate.  Dibrugarh MP Rameshwer Teli has declared during the civic poll campaign that whoever would get highest votes would be eligible for the posts of chairperson and vice-chairman. Ward No 7 candidate Niru Bora got highest votes among all the women candidates of BJP and ward No 5 candidate And Sharma got highest votes among all the male candidates. But a section of Margherita BJP members have started lobbying for Bhim Karmakar for the post of vice-chairman. Karmakar won from ward No 3 and got lesser votes than And Sharma. Asom Ga Parishad (AGP) senior leader of Margherita, Anita Das Mahanta and Dr Om Prakash Sahu told this correspondent that if the BJP ward commissioners fought among themselves, then the development of Margherita Town Committee would be a distant dream. The BJP State leaders, said party sources, have decided that for the first two-and-half years And Sharma would be vice-chairman and for the remaining term, Bhim Karmakar would be vice-chairman of Margherita Town Committee.
