Two AOD workers die in Digboi road mishap

DIGBOI , Oct 22: In a tragic road accident that occurred on NH 38 at Ultapool area under Digboi Police Station on Friday evening following the head-on collision between a motorcycle and a Bolero, two persons died on the way to Tinsukia Civil Hopital.

According to sources, the deceased were identified as Promod Chetiya (45), an AOD employee at Digboi Refinery and his pillion rider Deepak Kurmi (28), an IOCL contractual worker. They were returning home from the Gupeneri-based AOD LPG bottling plant on a bike.

The incident occurred when emerging out of the connecting road, the bike collided suddenly head-on with a Bolero bearing no AR 12 3635 on the highway. The Bolero was heading towards Makum in the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, the injured breathed their last on the way to Tinsukia Civil Hospital for immediate treatment. The death of the two AOD workers has been greatly mourned by the people of Digboi, particularly the Assam Oil Company Labour Union (AOCLU), which paid tribute and expressed grief at the loss of two quality resources.

Tarun Chandra Hazarika, the president of AOCLU, who attended the last rites performed on Saturday at Itavata Hindu Cremation Ground, termed the loss asĀ irreparable and also expressed concern over the rise in road accidents due to reckless driving.
