Bokajan, Aug 17: Police arrested two college students on charges of extortion and blackmail in Bokajan on Wednesday. The arrested duo had orchestrated a notorious plan of minting money by demanding a sum of Rs 4 lakh from Jagdish Dutta -a vegetable vendor, threatening to kidp his son if he failed to meet their demand.  The arrested students have been identified as Rahul Dutta of Rehabari, Guwahati and Amit Dutta, a neighbour of victim Jagdish Dutta of Sukhanjan. Both are students of B.Com third semester in Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati. “They first demanded Rs 4 lakh form Jagdish over telephone and the amount was later settled at Rs 35,000 after rounds of negotiations. The duo had also directed Jagdish to drop the extortion amount in the second last compartment of Guwahati-bound Intercity Express. We were alerted and Rahul landed in our trap while coming to receive the extortion money from Dimapur Railway Station. Amit was later picked from home after his involvement surfaced based on Rahul’s confession,” said a police officer. The duo revealed that they had demanded the money to meet their Durga Puja expenses next month.
