JOYSAGAR, April 26: A tea tribe labourer was arrested by the Safrai Police on Wednesday night on the charge of raping his step-daughter. This shameful incident came into light on Wednesday when a local woman of Safrai Rangapathar village went to the house of the local government Asha worker for treatment of the 13-year old girl who was six months pregnant. The Asha worker, while filling the form, asked the girl about the person who had made her pregnant and the minor girl replied that her step-father was responsible for her pregnancy. She also revealed that as she was an orphan and was living with her step-father who used to threaten her and rape her.

As this heinous incident came to light, local people called the Safrai Police and lodged an FIR against the step-father, identified as one Shibu Tantai (42), and police arrested him under case no- 64/18/376 (AB) IPC. Charaideo Divisional Executive Magistrate Court sent the accused Shibu to Sivasagar District Jail on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in another incident which also took place in Safrai, police on Thursday arrested one Abhi Mohali (23), a resident of Parbatpur, Safrai following an FIR lodged by the parents of a minor girl who was a Class V student of Parbati Baruah LP School. Sources revealed that Abhi had allegedly abducted the girl on Wednesday while she was coming back home from school and raped her in a nearby forest.

In the evening when the parents of the victim came to know about the incident, they lodged the FIR in Safrai Police Station and Safrai Police arrested the accused on Thursday.
