Two arrested for vandalizing ATMs

Itagar, Dec 5: Capital police on Monday apprehended a couple who has been on a spree of vandalizing ATM boots here.

The accused Nima Wangchu (34) is a resident of Dirang in West Kameng while the other Puja Kuma (22) hails from Kolam in Tirap district.

Addressing reporters here, Capital SP Sagar Singh Kalsi said that there have been several reports of ATM vandalism in the entire Capital Complex right from Baderdewa to Itagar and due to which the public have been facing problems for a long time.

Most of the destroyed ATMs belong to the State Bank of India. “Cases of 43 ATMs being vandalized were reported and registered in Itagar, harlagun and Nirjuli police stations. Accordingly, the police have laid several traps for the past 15-20 days to b the offenders. We bbed the duo as they were present on most of the CCTV footages that we checked and got hold of them today,” said SP Kalsi.

“The couple would be produced before the court for further investigation,” Kalsi added

The SP also said that several documents, identity and ATM cards, three mobile phones have been recovered from the duo so far and investigation is on to ascertain if they were involved in any other cases as well.

Due to vandalism of ATMs, all the banks in the Capital Complex are closing it by 6 pm, which in turn has been causing immense problems to the public.
