SILCHAR, July 31: Two teachers of Assam University (AU), Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering Associate Professor Dr Sudipto Sarkar and Associate Professor Dr Nirakar Malik of the Department of Sociology, have been suspended for their alleged sexual advances to an M Tech final year student.

The two associate professors had to face the wrath of teachers, staff and students’ bodies. Two other students of the victim’s class were also questioned by a three-member internal complaints committee (ICC). The committee has revealed that the victim is under mental and physical trauma since Dr. Sudipto Sarkar was sending her sleazy and vulgar messages through WhatsApp. Dr Sudipto Sarkar has been divested for the post of HoD and sent on leave. However, this has not been accepted by the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) and the Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU). They demand immediate dismissal of the teacher. “The ACKHSA is in full support of the Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU). We demand judicial probe into the matter,” said ACKHSA leader Rupam Nandi Purkayastha while briefing the media at Circuit House here on Sunday. AUSU staged a massive protest on the university premises.
