Two businessmen held following AASU's complaint

JOYSAGAR, April 6: Two renowned businessmen were held by the Sivasagar Sadar Police on Wednesday night following a complaint filed by the All Assam Students’ Union, Sivasagar district unit.

The owner of a garment shop and the owner of a restaurant were allegedly involved in a physical assault incident with some AASU members on Wednesday. AASU district unit, therefore, lodged an FIR in Sivasagar PS and a case has been registered under section 323/427/295(A)/379/506/34 of 227/17 and police bbed the two businessmen. They were identified as Bijendralal and Pabindralal, residents of Boarding Road area of Sivasagar town.

On the other hand, the accused said that some AASU members came to their shops yesterday and demanded a heavy amount of money for organizing a Bihu function. When they were bargaining on the said amount, suddenly some AASU members started to beat their employees inside the shop. Sivasagar Police are taking this allegation seriously and said that police would also cross question the AASU members allegedly involved in the incident.

Sivasagar Superintendent of Police, Subudh Kumar Sonowal said that the administration would not allow anyone to collect money forcefully for any occasion and for some social cause people and social organizations might approach businessmen but this did not mean they could become violent and forceful. Police are monitoring the situation and will take steps as per law, the Sivasagar SP added.
