Two cattle-laden vehicles held by local youths, released by Digboi Police

DIGBOI, Aug 25: Two small 407 vehicles bearing registration number AS 06 AC 8648 and  AS 04 AC 7511 laden with 11 cattle were held by the youths belonging to various local organizations on the ground of suspicion on Thursday evening in front of the DFO Office under Digboi Police Station. According to the local youths, the cattle were being brought from Bordumsa weekly market via Pengaree to be transported to Sivsagar. According to them, the cattle transporting provisions were grossly violated. Cattle permit could not be produced by the transporter and even the provisions of fodder and other governing provisions were not followed by the party concerned. Meanwhile, the transporter and other local youths told The Sentinel that the cattle were being transported to fulfil their religious requirements rather than to realize their commercial ends. However, team Digboi police brought the vehicles and the cattle under its custody and later released the cattle to be transported to their destition after verification. The inspector, Chandan Milli found it legal and released the vehicles after verification. He said that all was satisfactory except that the norms of the quantity of cattle per vehicle was flouted by the transporter.
