Two-day flower show in Hailakandi town

Hailakandi, Jan 29: A two-day flower show has been organized at Officers’ Recreation Centre in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow in Hailakandi town. Deputy Commissioner Moloy Bora will throw open the exhibition for public viewing on January 31, stated a press release.

Senior Agricultural Officer, AR Ahmed informed that apart from the flower show, a workshop on floriculture focusing on commercial cultivation of flowers for sustaible livelihoods would be held. The flower exhibition will not just showcase flowers, but also exotic plants. The display will also feature a range of potted plants, leaves and flower arrangements. The flower show will see a walk-in drawing competition for senior and junior levels. “They can draw on-the-spot and submit their drawings. Prizes will be given in the valedictory session on February 1,” said Ahmed.

Flowers on display will be judged under three categories vis-a-vis potted seasol flowers, cut flowers and potted ormental plants. Ahmed said the intention behind holding the flower show and workshop was to encourage farmers to take up floriculture cultivation and also to generate awareness on the importance of ture conservation. The senior official appealed to the farmers, students and people at large to participate in a big way to make the event a success.  Entry is free for two days of the exhibition. The event is being organized by the district administration in association with Agriculture Department, KVK, E-Media Association and Press Club, Hailakandi and sponsored by NRLM.
