DIBRUGARH, Sept 19:  A two-day media education programme was organized for youth leaders of various colleges of the town under the aegis of the media commission of the catholic diocese of Dibrugarh with support from North East Social Communications (NESCOM), Guwahati, recently at Bishop’s House, Dibrugarh. The objective of the programme was to eble youth understand the complexity of media messages received from various sources of media like TV, internet, magazines, mobile phones, music and newspapers. The youths were educated on the intricacies of media to help them alyze, evaluate and critically view and consume what is beneficial. The subject ‘Mass Communication and Jourlism’ and career scope was also introduced to the students.

The students were mainly from DHSK Kanoi College, Dibru College, ndalal Buragohain City College and higher secondary students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, and Little Flower Higher Secondary School.

The programme was iugurated by Dr Sashikanta Saikia, eminent jourlist and Principal of DHSK College, Dibrugarh. Dr Titus Bhengra, Head of the Department of Political Science, DHSK College attended the iugural function as guest of honour. Dr Pushpa Champia, faculty from Centre for Juridical Studies, Dibrugarh University also attended the programme. The resource persons included Ikbal Ahmed, former president of the All Assam Jourlists’ Union and a senior jourlist of the region.
