Two dreaded rhino poachers apprehended

JORHAT, Sept 20: Forest Task Force apprehended two dreaded and wanted rhino poachers and animal body part smugglers along with a large cache of arms and ammunition. They were taking shelter at Karbi Anglong hilltop in Hendurting village and Zamindar Tereng gaon, in Khomtai, Golaghat district, police sources said on Wednesday.

They were identified as Ranjit Bhumiz (30) and Do Singh Rongpy (28).  Two AK-56 rifle magazines, live 150 rounds of AK-56 rifle ammunition, 9.96 pistol 135 live ammunition, four magazines of X-95 rifle, two gredes, four khukuris and machet and several mobile sets, which were all later handed over to Dolamora Police authority by the KNP special task force.

On the other hand, it came to light after the duo’s confession that they had links with an underground outfit of Karbi Anglong which was involved in smuggling animal body parts to the intertiol market through routes between Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal, added sources.
