Two drown in Jiri river

Silchar, June 17: In a most unfortunate incident, Pratap Singh (38) and Jamal Uddin (40), both residents of Digli village under Jirighat police station drowned in the overflowing Jiri river on Friday at around 10 in the morning. Lakhipur civil administration led by ADC J R Lalsim, in-charge, SDO (Civil), Lakhipur and Circle Officer of Lakhipur Pradip Kumar Gupta sent the SDRF team which searched for the bodies for several hours.

However, on Saturday, Jamal Uddin’s desad body, as identified by his family members, was found near Mirpur in Jiri river. Magistrate Pritam Raja Sharma went to the spot and sent Jamal’s lifeless body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. Searches are still going on for Pratap Singh, who is presumably dead. His family members along with other locals have hired 20 boats to continue their search.
