Two drug peddlers arrested in Golaghat

Golaghat: Following secret information, a team of Golaghat Police arrested two youths on Thursday for drugs peddling in Golaghat. The youths have been identified as Bitupan Sarma and Shakib Haque.

According to police sources, Bitupan Sarma was detained for drug use and involvement in brown sugar smuggling. After interrogation, Bitupan Sarma revealed the involvement of another youth, Shakib Haque. Later, Golaghat Police arrested him from the rice market of Golaghat town. Some objectionable items along with brown sugar packets were recovered from their procession.

The people of Golaghat have time and again expressed concern over the increasing use of ganja, drugs and alcoholic substances in Golaghat district. They demanded the district administration and police administration to bust the drug rackets in Merapani, Islampur, Krishnasami gaon and Merapani town and in Golaghat town, Kumarpatty, Santipur, and Bengenakhowa areas. Although several operations have been carried out against drug abuse, Golaghat Police have not been able to root out this problem.
