Two factions at loggerheads over representation

SHILLONG, Feb 27: The Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) led by Agnes Kharshiing today said that magistrates conducting the inquiry into which faction represents the origil CSWO since 2011 could not come to any conclusion on the status of the organisation.

It may be mentioned that the CSWO led by Agnes Kharshiing and another faction led by Irene Hujon are at loggerheads over who actually represents the CSWO.

It may be mentioned that on Sunday, Hujon claimed that the CSWO was not involved in the ILP agitations.

She alleged that Kharshiing, who was part of the protests in 2012-2013, used the me of the organisation and that she should be held accountable.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the general secretary of the CSWO led by Kharshiing – Evangelynn Thabah said, “This is to clarify to all the allegations being circulated through media by some (Irene Hujon) who are no longer members of the CSWO,” Thabah said.

Thabah also said that Hujon’s claim to be the president of the CSWO and her allegation that Kharshiing has tarnished the me of the CSWO does not arise as she (Thabah) was the general secretary and know the facts from the beginning.

Thabah claimed that Hujon has handed over the presidentship of the CSWO to Kharshiing in their presence.

“We have full faith in Agnes and her work for the benefit of the people of the state at large,” Thabah said.

Moreover, the CSWO has requested the government to set at ease, the minds of the people and to come clean with the facts and not to mislead the people.

“FIRs have also been filed in this regard for impersotion, but strangely the Police have been instructed by their seniors to turn the case into FR,” Thabah said.

Meanwhile, the CSWO members of the faction led by Kharshiing reiterated that they are in full support of her.
