Two football fans killed in stadium violence

Casablanca, March 20: At least two people were killed and 54 others injured in violent clashes among football fans in a Moroccan domestic level match here on Sunday.

The fight broke out in a match between Raja Casablanca and Chabab Rif Al Hoceima at Stade Mohamed V stadium, according to a statement released by Moroccan police.

Following the match against Chabab Rif Al Hoceima, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Raja Casablanca, violent brawls broke out among fans of the latter team at the stadium's stands in which they threw stones and flares at each other.

After the fight, several people were admitted to the Mulay Yusef hospital, where one man succumbed to his injuries after losing a large amount of blood, while the other died without showing apparent signs of violence on his body.

Several media outlets reported the death of a third person.

Clashes resumed at the exit gate of the stadium, where Raja Casablanca fans destroyed at least 11 cars.

Policemen intervened to break up the clashes and arrested 31 people, while 10 others were arrested during the first minutes of the game. IANS
