TANGLA, April 4: Two junior college girls were allegedly molested and a youth was assaulted by two labourers of a stone mahal on the banks of Kulsi river near Teliapara under Panery police station on Tuesday evening. Proving the sheer fearlessness of the perpetrators, the culprits even called their friends who came armed with sticks. The victim girls, identified as Sakhila Khatun (18) and Neha Bharti (18), were returning home on their bicycle. They called their friend Mustakul Ali (23) for help as their bicycle developed some problem. Mustakul, who was also jostled, said that the accused, besides manhandling and molesting the girls, also passed lewd remarks while the distraught girls kept on begging to be spared. The culprits, who have been identified as Basanta Rabha (34), a resident of Sastrapara under Harisinga PS, and Rajiv Boro (30), a resident of Uttar Murmela under Panery PS, were taken into custody on Wednesday vide Panery PS case no.24/18 under IPC sections 341/294/376/511/34 IPC. They were produced before the CJM court in Udalguri which sent them to judicial custody on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Panery and Tangla units of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) have demanded strict action against the culprits.
