Bongaigaon, May 14: Two jawans of the Indian Air Force died and one was seriously injured in a tragic road mishap in NH 31(C) at Dhaligaon Main Gate under Dhaligaon PS in Chirang district on Saturday.

The deceased jawans have been identified as Uma Sankar Sing (30) and Sankar Yadav (41). The injured jawan has been identified as Chandan Sing. All three were from Tezpur Airport and Uma Sankar Sing and Sankar Yadav had joined Tezpur Airport just two days ago after being transferred from Bagdogra Airport and Hasimara Airport in West Bengal respectively.

A source said that after joining Tezpur Airport, the three jawans were going to their previous camp to bring their luggage in an Eco Sport car (UP-32-FX-5308) when the accident occurred. “The car hit a divider and fell into a nearby drain which is about 20 feet in depth. Two jawans died on the spot and the injured jawan has been admitted in a private nursing home in Bongaigaon,” a police official said. People have blamed Gayatri Construction Company, the company who is constructing this portion of the four-lane corridor highway. “They are working in this area but had not put sufficient signboards for diversion or road block. This is why many accidents occurred in this place in the last few days,” a local person said. Chirang Deputy Commissioner Rupak Kumar Mazumdar also visited the spot and admitted that there was mistake on the part of the construction company. He assured to inquire into the matter and to take immediate action to avoid such accidents.
