From our Corespondent

DIMORIA, August 18: Two tea garden workers -- Jibon Das (20) and Anda Das (19) -- sustained serious injuries when they were attacked by a leopard on their way back home from the factory of Amshong Tea Estate in the Sopur area around 8-30 last night.

According to sources, when the leopard attacked the duo they raised a hue and cry. The local people soon rushed to the spot and that led the leopard flee the scene. The duo was rushed to the 200-bed hospital at Sopur with injuries. They are out of danger, and the hospital authorities released them today.

The local people alleged that deforestation in the forest near Amshong has been rampant, and that leads leopards frequenting the human habitations nearby. “Nowadays, even wild elephants frequent the villages. We need deployment of personnel from the State Forest Battalion for our safety,” a section of the local people said.
