Two killed in jumbo attack in Sonitpur

Tezpur, May 28: Two persons were killed in separate incidents of elephant attack in Sonitpur district on Sunday. According to sources, a herd of wild elephants emerged from Sui Rupai tiol Park in search of food and entered into the 2 no. labour lane at Tarajuli Tea Estate under Rangapara PS last night around 12.30 pm and destroyed the house of 50-year old Lakhan Proja. A terrified Proja tried to flee by running out of the house but he was trampled to death by the elephants. In another incident at Dharikati village under Chariduar PS, Atowa Guri (65) was returning to his house at night around 10 pm and he came across a wild elephant. When he tried to run away, the elephant gripped him by the trunk and trampled him to death.
