FROM A CORRESPONDENT

Agartala, Oct 13: Two love birds from South Tripura district committed suicide in a lodge at Vellore in Tamil du and left a suicide note with a request to dote their bodies to the Christian Medical College and to send their death certificates to their home at Muhuripur.

Sukanta Debth (35) and his sister-in-law Rita Debth (27) were found missing since Thursday last and their bodies were found lying on the floor of Maa Santoshi Lodge in Vellore on Sunday morning. Both of them were married and had one child each from their respective spouse.

Sukanta, a work assistant of the Shantir Bazar Municipality and father of a 3 year-old daughter fell in love with Rita, wife of his wife’s elder brother and mother of a 5 year-old son.

It is learnt that the couple took a direct flight from Agartala to Cheni on October 6 and on the same night they reached Vellore and lodged at Maa Santoshi Lodge, run by a man from Belonia in South Tripura and known to Sukanta.

In the morning of October 8, the lodge owner informed the police who broke open the door and found the bodies of the couple lying on the floor. It is suspected that they consumed some poison and committed suicide. The suicide note also stated that their bag contained Rs 25,000 and requested the police to spend this amount for sending their bodies to CMC and their belongings to their home.

The Tamil du police contacted the Muhiripur police station and send a copy of the suicide note. The family members confirmed that it was Sukanta’s hand writing. It is learnt that Sukanta visited CMC few months ago along with his wife, a government teacher, for her treatment and stayed in the same lodge.
