MANGALDAI, April 2: Pranjal Bora (23), a resident of Borthekerabari village and Rubul Ali (32) of Katahguri of Niz-Rangamati village under Mangaldai police station were held on Wednesday in connection with the firing and killing of a petrol depot employee by suspected ULFA (Independent) militants. They were produced before the court on Thursday and the court remanded Pranjal Bora to six days police custody but Rubul Ali was sent to jail custody. Pranjal Bora, a former employee of a private security agency in Guwahati, had reportedly been working as a linkman of ULFA (I) cadre Deepak Bora alias Bikram Asom in an extortion drive whereas Rubul Ali delivered the extortion money to the ULFA cadre about one year back. The police have also identified the other persons closely associated with the case but all of them are now absconding, police sources added. With these two, the total number of persons arrested in the case has gone up to seven.
