Two NDFB (S) rebels held

BONGAIGAON, June 5: The army and police in a joint operation today apprehended two NDFB (Songbijit) militants from Chirang district today.

Army sources said both the militants were trained in Myanmar. The duo have been identified as Worga Basumatary (30) and Pusho Goyari (24).

The army’s Red Horns division and Chirang police conducted a joint operation to apprehend the militants.

Two double barrel guns and ammunition were recovered fropm their possession.

 “Both the militants were  trained in Myanmar,” sources said.  Sources   said the militants waswere involved in the stching of weapons of the Territorial Army personnel in October last year.

In October last year, NDFB (S) militants stched seven Insas rifles from the 135 Battalion (ecological task force) of the Territorial Army at Khalashi area near the Saralbangha river in Kokrajhar district.

The battalion was carrying out plantation work when a group of NDFB (S) militants came and took away their arms at gunpoint.

“The arrested militants are suspected to be involved in the December 23, 2014 carge which left over 60 Adivasis dead,” added the sources.
