Two rank holders from Darrang and Udalguri districts

MANGALDAI, June 2: Two students of Darrang and Udalguri district have brought laurels to both the districts by securing the 8th rank in the HS fil examition in Commerce and Arts. They are Bhaskar Singh of LNB Road, Tengabari in Mangaldai and a student of Brilliant Academy, and Mousumi Barua of tiol Pioneer College in Tangla in Udalguri district.

Bhaskar Singh, son of Gobinda Singh, secured a total of 459 marks in Commerce while Mousumi Barua, daughter of Ram Bilas Barua-a grade IV employee of the Irrigation department at Tangla, secured a total of 471 marks in Arts. Bhaskar Singh, who has the ambition to be a lecturer in Accountancy, scored 95 in English, 91 in Accountancy, 88 in Economics, 91 in Altertive English and 94 in Business Studies. At the same time, four students secured the highest marks in the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council in Anthropology subject with 98 marks. They are Bhupali Sandhya of Ranjit Sarma Academy, Himashree Deka, Jaya Rani th and zreen Akhtar, all of Brilliant Academy, Mangaldai.

On the other hand, according to the Inspector of Schools of Darrang, Sadulla Khan, in the Arts stream a total of 5,552 students appeared in the examition in Darrang and 1,035 have secured first division, 2,227 secured second division and 1,774 secured third division with overall percentage in the district being 90.71 per cent, while the overall percentage of the State is 79.92 per cent.

In Commerce stream, a total of 431 students appeared in the fil examition of which 108 secured first division, 159 secured second division and 129 secured third division with overall percentage being 91.88 per cent, while the overall pass percentage in the State is 86.01 per cent.

In the Science stream, a total of 793 students in Darrang district appeared in the fil examition and 558 secured first division, 184 secured second division and only 14 secured the third division with overall percentage being 95.33 per cent, while the overall pass percentage in the State is 90.96 per cent. On the basis of the overall percentage, Darrang district has been placed in the third position in Arts and Science and fifth position in Commerce in the State. Significantly, in the HS fil examition the private sector institutions performed better than government or provincialized schools.

On the other hand, Kharupetia HS School in Darrang district has came out with flying colours with cent per cent result in Commerce and Science stream.
