Two rivals from different groups join Congress

SHILLONG, May 3: Two rivals from two different entities merged themselves with the Congress party to take on the two time sitting and suspended Congress MLA of Mawsynram Pynshngain nd Syiem.

The sitting MLA –presently holding the post of the Chief Executive Memebr (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council(KHADC) under a coalition strength is set to face the greatest test in the 2018 elections.

The two time loosing contenders with large votes-mely Soly Lyngdoh and Batskhem Marbaniang formally joined the Congress at Mawsynram on Wednesday. Interestingly, the two newly joined Congress members gathered nearly 4000 of votes in other the State Assembly and District Council elections.

During the formal welcoming ceremony, the diatribes against the sitting and suspended MLA was evident.

The general secretary of District Congress Committee, SG Khongiong on Wednesday criticized the suspended local congress MLA of Mawsynram constituency PN Syiem by stating that the congress party is not a bad party but it is the individual who is bad because the people have chosen a bad representative.

In his address to the people attending the welcoming function, Khongiong urged the people to remain united and continue to extend their support to the party as it aims to retain power in 2018 in the state.

The congress leader form Mawsynram further predicted that the party will become the single largest party in the state after the 2018 polls.

“The main principal of the party is to always elimite poverty, ignorance and diseases,” he said.

Taking a jibe at the BJP party, he alleged that the party did not stay true to its words as its actions are completely opposite to the promises it made to the people.

In a bold statement, the congress leader further said that the BJP party will not even open a single account in the 2018 MLA elections.

According to him, regiol parties are not united.

Khongiong said, “People should not be misled. They should elect people who are mature and learned people.”

Meanwhile, Mawsynram delegate to Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Kensing Lynshiang, said that if people elect PDF and other regiol parties it will easily pave the way for BJP.
