Two shocking deaths in Tezpur

Tezpur, Oct 3: Sensation prevailed recently here at Cotton Road under Tezpur Sadar Police Station in Sonitpur district after a mother of a five-year old child, mjin Iftikar Alam committed suicide. Before killing herself, she uploaded a video on social media where she rrated how she was ill-treated in her husband’s house and how her child will be looked after her death.

On Tuesday morning, after uploading the video on social media and informing her intention to relatives residing in Mumbai and in America, panic prevailed among the family members. She had committed suicide by hanging herself while her child was watching this gruesome scene.

According to the sources, mjin alias Simi, a resident of Potia Chuburi, Tezpur got married seven years ago to Iftikar Alam of Tezpur Cotton Road. They had a son but her husband died about two years back. After her husband’s demise, she was probably depressed and this led her to take the extreme step, said sources. The body was recovered in presence of police and judicial magistrate and sent for postmortem.

In another incident in Tezpur, a newly-married girl died after she came to Mazgaon during Durga Puja with her husband from Bongaigaon. Aporajita Goswami, resident of Bongaigaon Avoyapuri area, had come to Tezpur with her husband Ratul Das to the residence of Purabi Das, elder sister of Ratul Das, at Mazgaon during Durga Puja. On the day of vami, she felt acute pain in her stomach and started vomiting after dinner. Her husband and Purabi Das brought her at Tezpur Kaklata Civil Hospital but after examition, the doctor said that she was brought dead. Family members of the deceased denied to accept it as a tural death and suspected a conspiracy. Later, they lodged a police complaint at Tezpur Sadar Police Station and a case has been registered vide No.366/302/201 of IPC.

Numal Mahatta, Additiol Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, said, “The doctor had done postmortem of the body and seeing the body turn blue in colour, it led to further doubt. Since the necessary equipments were not readily available here at Kaklata Civil Hospital, the body was sent to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital for further examition meticulously. We are just waiting for the fil report and as soon as the report comes, necessary action will be taken as deemed fit.”
