Two sportspersons killed in road accident in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, July 21: In a tragic road accident two sportspersons died on the spot near CIT, Kokrajhar on Wednesday evening at around 8.20 pm. They were coming to Kokrajhar town from Gaurang Tiniali area when the Scooty they were travelling in had a head-on collision with a tempo coming from the opposite side.

The sportspersons were identified as Sansuma Khungur Basumatary of Routa, Udalguri and Biki Ramchiary of Nogaon. Sources said both of them were supposed to participate in the All Assam Inter-district Wushu Championship that began from Thursday at Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA). One of them succumbed to his injuries at RN Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar.

Meanwhile, the secretary of games and sports, All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), Phungka Brahma expressed shock over the tragic accident and the loss of lives of two sportspersons. Expressing grief over the accident, he said the Bodos had lost two promising sportsmen. He also said the union shared the grief with the bereaved families.
