Two ULFA cadres bbed in Chirang, ammunition seized

Bongaigaon, July 16:  Two ULFA cadres were bbed and a large quantity of ammunition was recovered on Wednesday night during an operation  by Chirang district police.

The arrested cadres are Giren Ray (24), a resident of Dangaigaon under Bijni PS of CHirang district and Dipu Ray, a resident of Kabulibagan area of Ward No 1 of Bijni town of Chirang district.  Ranjan Bhuyan, SP, Chirang  said that following previous information police had raided house of Giren Ray on Wednesday night and recovered Rs 37,000 and ammunition. "He had been interrogated and as per his information, we have arrested Dipu Ray from his house and recovered Rs 3,05,000. We also recovered a AK 56 Rifle (made in Chi) from another place wrapped in polythene paper. Total three magazines and 114 live ammunition of AK56, five extortion letters signed by Arunodaya Dohotiye, Publicity Secretary of ULFA have been recovered in this operation. Giren is an ex-ULFA militant and has already been to jail several times," he said.

A police source mentioned that Giren was working in sleeper cell under Dipen Saud, area commander of ULFA. The source also said that Giren and his unit were mainly used for collecting extortion money and at this time he had stolen Rs 5,61,000 from which he deposited Rs 2,19,000 in the ULFA headquarter. Police have started interrogation of both cadres.
