Two ULFA (I) rebels held at Wakhet Ghat, explosives recovered

DIGBOI, Dec 15 : The joint security forces of Bordumsa based 7 Madras Regiment and Aruchal Police gave another jolt 24 hours after the Dharamapur encounter and apprehended two more militants belonging to the ULFA (I) on Thursday afternoon at Wakhet Ghat near Wakhet village of Bordumsa in Changlang district of Aruchal Pradesh.

According to sources, the arrested ULFA cadres have been identified as Pomai Moran of Makum and Muhunto Phukon (17) of Dighalipather in Bordumsa. The sources informed that the cadres were among the 11-member ULFA team which had escaped during the Dharmapur encounter on Wednesday evening, wherein two cadres were slain during the gun fire. Wakhet Ghat shares a common marine boundary between Wakhet village in Bordumsa and Dharmapur village in Miao which provides an easy hideout belt for several militant organizations due to dense forest cover along the river course.

The security forces recovered large detotors and several other objectioble materials from the possession of the apprehended outfits. The interrogation with the bbed militants was being carried out by Aruchal Police in Bordumsa.

The Indian Army on Wednesday evening gunned down two militants and apprehended six cadres of the banned ULFA outfit here from Dharmapur village under Miao police station in Changlang district of Aruchal Pradesh.

The counter insurgency operation has been intensified in the entire vulnerable belt along the Assam-Aruchal border to b members of the 11-member ULFA team.
