Two ULFA linkmen arrested in Digboi

DIGBOI, March 7: Two ULFA linkmen, identified as Hiren Gogoi alias Rabin (24) and Hemakat changmai alias Jatin alias Pinku, both belonging to Deoghoriya village of Lakhipather under Digboi Police station in Tinsukia district were arrested recently by joint forces of Tinsukia district Special Team and Digboi Police.

According to sources, the arrest was made after the demand for fifty hunting boots were made by the miscreants from a local businessman here in Digboi recently which was meant for the banned ULFA faction.

Talking to The Sentinel during the remand custody on Sunday evening, both the arrested Myanmar-trained persons admitted of being in the ULFA organization since 2009 and belonging to batch ‘76 and they had indulged in various anti-social activities.

According to Gogoi, who was arrested earlier in Sivsagar with a huge cache of arms and ammunition along with cash around Rs 20 lakh, he was released in 2014 and had started leading a life resembling a vagrant in Lakhipather. But soon he started to work for the organization again, helping the cadres in raising funds and providing other required services maintaining good telephonic relations with the ULFA outfits in various portfolios. Changmai, who had surrendered earlier before the SP Tinsukia in 2013, had started working afresh for the ULFA.  Both were involved in the latest act of demanding 50 pairs of hunting boots illegally from Biju Borah, a local businessman who informed the police immediately.

Meanwhile, based on the FIR, a case 31/2016 has been registered at Digboi Police Station and the arrested persons have been prosecuted u/s 387 IPC, R/W Sec. 10/3 U.A (P) Act. Police investigation and detail interrogation was on till the filing of this report.
